# In-Browser Translation

iKanban includes a built-in translation feature that lets you translate any page into 15 languages. No API keys or accounts required — it uses Google Translate's free service.

## How to Translate

1. Look for the **pink translate button** (bottom-right corner of any page)
2. Click it — the page translates instantly using your saved language settings
3. Click again to **restore** the original text

## Settings

Hover over the translate button and click the **gear icon** to open settings:

- **Source language** — Auto Detect (default) or a specific language
- **Target language** — choose from 15 supported languages
- **Service** — Google Translate (only option)
- **Always translate this site** — auto-translates on every page load
- **Hover translate** — translate text on hover
- **Text selection translation** — translate selected text

## Supported Languages

English, Indonesian, Deutsch, Francais, Tieng Viet, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Espanol, Portugues, Arabic, Hindi, Thai, Bahasa Melayu

## Show / Hide the Translate Button

Go to **Settings > Translation** to toggle the floating translate button on or off.

## How It Works

The translation happens entirely in your browser:
1. The engine walks the DOM tree collecting visible text nodes
2. Text is batched and sent to `translate.googleapis.com` (Google's free endpoint)
3. Translated text replaces the original in the DOM
4. Original text is stored in `data-translate-original` attributes for restoration

No data is sent to iKanban's servers — translations go directly from your browser to Google.

## No API Key Required

Unlike AI features which need provider keys, translation works out of the box for all users on any plan. The `gtx` client used is Google's free tier with no authentication.
